In 1959, the Board of Directors of CSI voted to honor outstanding individuals by creating two awards of distinction. One award elevates Institute members to Fellowship and provides non-members, whose efforts have been exemplary on behalf of the Institute’s purposes and principles, with the Honorary Membership award.
In 1960, the Board created the Jury of Fellows, which consists of three Fellows and three non-Fellows. They are responsible for selecting those people who are to be elevated to Fellowship. In the 60+ year history of CSI, only 407 members have been elevated to Fellowship.
Nominees must have notably contributed to CSI in one of four categories. These categories include:
· Advancement of Construction Technology
· Contribution to the Improvement of Construction Specifications
· Contribution to Education
· Service to the Institute
Fellowship is one of the highest honors for which members of the Institute may be chosen, with the exception of Distinguished and Honorary Membership. Teri’s history with CSI has been long and valuable to our Chapter.

· Since 2006, Teri has been the Chapter Treasurer.
· From 2004 to 2006, Teri was the SW Region Institute Director.
· From 2009 to 2011, Teri was the SW Regional Secretary/Treasurer.
· From 2004 to 2006, Teri was on the Institute Board Audit Committee and Chair of the Committee in 2006.

· Teri passed her CDT in April, 1998 and has received numerous Chapter, SW Regional and Institute awards every year from 1999 to the present.
This article would become very long if I were to list them all!
I had to seek help from some members who have more history with the Chapter while trying to identify other Fellows that we claim in our Chapter. They are Stephen Andros, Maynard Blumer, Lee Orosco, Paul Simonsen, Gene Valentine and Werner (Dutch) Zarnikow.
CSI is a volunteer organization. These individuals have donated a tremendous amount of their time for our Chapter, our Region and the Institute. If you are going to Construct 2011 in Chicago, please take time and attend the CSI Honors and Awards Gala on Friday night, September 16th to share in the awards ceremony. Celebrate the accomplishments these individuals have achieved.
As I close out this message I would like to offer a couple morsels of thought from Harvey Mackay’s article in the Business Section of the Arizona Republic on August 15, 2011. After introductions at a conference, Harvey asked one of the organizers, “And what do you do for a living?” “Wrong question, Harvey!” she replied. “It’s what I do for a life that matters!” And finally, “Mackay’s Moral: It’s never too late to become what you could have been.”
See you in Chicago at Construct 2011 and see you Friday night at the Gala!
