As we ended 2011, many of you should have received an email around December 6th from the Institute regarding a CSI branding survey. As Walt Marlowe, CSI Executive Director stated in the cover sheet, CSI recently began the process of evaluating the CSI brand. As the first step in the evaluation process, Institute has sent this research survey to CSI members and external stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the perception of the current CSI brand. I hope you have been able to take a moment and complete the survey. It is important to give Institute your input and opinion on this subject.
While taking the survey I found one very interesting question regarding the CSI mission. The question was as follows: Which of the following best explains CSI’s mission to industry peers who aren’t members? There were five or six potential answers and you were to select only two. As I answered the question I wondered how many members know the CSI Mission statement or where to find it.
During the December Phoenix Chapter Board Meeting I asked this question and got very few individuals that acknowledged they knew. So I went on the CSI Institute website and searched for it. I couldn’t find a direct link to the mission statement, but I had copied the CSI Strategic Plan FY11-15 a few months back and knew it was within the plan.
As quoted out of the Strategic Plan “Missionis the fundamental reason for being, serving to answer the question of ‘why does this organization exist?’ The mission statement need not be a ‘tagline’ but must primarily resonate with key stakeholders as the primary direction setting statement for the association’s work.”
The mission of CSI is to advance building information management and education of project teams to improve facility performance.
Just like the New Year’s, resolutions our mission is possible when we think, practice and apply it on a daily basis.
I have one further mission to mention this month. We need to create a Nominations Committee in the month of January. I would like the committee to consist of three to five members, but if we have more volunteers than five that will be acceptable. The committee will need to gather names of individuals who would like to run for one of the open seats on the Chapter Board this coming year. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for this committee or (better yet) would like to be on the election ballot, please inform me or one of the current Board members. We have only until March to gather names for the election ballot.
