August 2008 President's Message
Interesting twist, wouldn't you say ? There is no question times are changing. The construction industry is constantly changing as new materials come on the market, new applications are found for existing materials, and construction techniques and delivery methods continue to evolve.
The "do more with less" business outlook of our times pushes the envelope for the most efficient use of materials in construction. The process of consruction can no longer be separated from the materials. With the business realities of the marketplace, the litigiousness of society, and competition in global business, the need for an understanding and appreciation of this has never been more appropriate.
This year the Phoenix Chapter of The Construction Specification Institue will explore the implications of design realities, material capabilities, code limitations and regulations on the construction process. Topics will include the physics of natural and man - made materials, construction tolerances, efficency, workmanship, and other issues that impact quality, constructability, and life - cycle assessment.
